My Election Statement
VALUES
Who is the MTS?
What does the MTS Value?
My answer:
It is clear to me that The Manitoba Teachers’ Society is currently grappling with these questions. Determining our organizational values and clearly communicating them to both Members and the public is paramount to being a strong, well-respected union. We must look inward and draw from our foundational documents, reports, Member voice, and a history of unionism to succinctly articulate what is important to us. We must then stand behind these values in our words and in our actions, taking a stand on the issues and challenges faced by Members.
VOICE
In the role of Vice-President, I will use my voice and support Members in using theirs. I have consistently spoken up around the Provincial Executive table, with government, and at Provincial Council. I have supported Members as they develop their voices through committee work and member engagement opportunities, and in community. Working with the Council of School Leaders, les Éducatrices et éducateurs francophones du Manitoba, and Society leadership will allow me to continue this collaboration in service of Members.
VISION
Leadership is not only about doing what is needed in the moment, it is also about looking to the future. In the immediate, we must govern by enacting our fiduciary obligations. It is also essential that we get ahead of what is coming so that we are prepared to tackle challenges head-on. One of my strengths is foresight, an adeptness that will aid in setting a strategic direction for the union to address the many and ever-changing Member needs in today’s educational landscape.
